Privacy Policy
Effective November 5, 2026
In short: WayWaker uses your location on your phone to ring your alarms. Your alarms, places, contacts and history stay on your device. We don't run servers, have no accounts, and don't collect, sell or share your personal information. The map and place search come from OpenStreetMap, which sees the map areas you view and the places you search for.
This policy explains how the WayWaker app ("WayWaker", "the app", "we", "us") handles information. It applies to WayWaker for Android and, when available, iOS. shaunniekins is responsible for the app.
Information WayWaker uses on your device
| Information | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Your precise location, including in the background | To tell when you arrive at or leave an alarm area, show where you are on the map, your speed, and how far you are from each alarm | Compared with your alarms on the device. Not stored as a track and not sent to us or anyone else. |
| Your alarms (name, place, area size, sound, color, schedule) | To run your alarms | Saved in the app's private storage on your device |
| Alarm history (when each alarm rang, where you were at that moment, and who the ETA was for) | For the Alarm History screen | Saved on your device. Only the most recent 100 entries are kept. |
| Contacts you choose for ETA messages (name and phone number) | To fill in the recipients of an ETA text | Saved on your device. WayWaker reads your address book only when you open the contact picker, and keeps only the contacts you pick. |
| Your ETA message template and settings | To write messages in your words and remember your preferences | Saved on your device |
| Map tiles you've viewed | So the map works with a weak or no connection | Saved on your device |
Information that leaves your device
WayWaker has no servers of its own, so nothing is sent to us. A few features need outside services:
- Map tiles. To draw the map, the app downloads map images from OpenStreetMap's tile servers. Like any website, those servers receive your IP address and which map squares were requested, which shows the area you're looking at. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
- Place search. When you search for a place, or the app looks up the address of a point you picked on the map, the search text or that point's coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service, under the same privacy policy. Your live GPS position is not sent.
- ETA text messages. WayWaker never sends texts itself and has no SMS permission. If you turn on ETA for an alarm and tap Text ETA when it rings, your phone's messaging app opens with the contacts you chose and a message filled in from your template: roughly how long until you arrive and the alarm's place name. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send in that app. Your messaging app's and carrier's terms and rates then apply.
- Fonts. The app may download its typeface from Google Fonts the first time it runs, which tells Google your IP address. No other information is sent. See Google's privacy policy.
- Feedback and Premium waitlist. "Send feedback" and "Notify me" open a Google Form in your browser. Anything you type there, such as your email address, is sent to us through Google Forms, and we use it only to reply or to tell you when Premium launches. Filling in the form is optional.
What WayWaker does not do
- It does not collect, sell, rent or share personal information.
- It does not require an account or sign-in.
- It does not show ads or include advertising, analytics or crash-reporting software.
- It does not record a history of where you go. It only notes your position at the moment an alarm rings.
- It does not read your messages, call log, photos, camera or microphone.
Permissions
| Permission | Used for |
|---|---|
| Location, including "Allow all the time" | Ringing alarms when you arrive or leave, even with the app closed |
| Notifications and full-screen alerts | Showing the alarm, including over the lock screen |
| Alarms & reminders (exact alarms) | Ringing a snoozed alarm on time |
| Foreground service, run at startup, ignore battery optimization | Keeping alarms working in the background and after a restart |
| Contacts | Picking who receives ETA messages |
| Internet | Map tiles and place search |
You can turn any permission off in your device settings. Features that need it will stop working until you turn it back on.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your information stays on your device until you remove it. You can delete an alarm or contact in the app at any time. To delete everything WayWaker saved, uninstall the app or clear its storage in your device settings. Because we never receive your information, there is nothing for us to delete on our side, except anything you sent through the feedback form, which we delete on request.
Children
WayWaker is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 and the GDPR, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you. Since WayWaker keeps your data on your device, you control it directly. For anything you sent us through the feedback form, email us and we'll help.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and publish the new version on this page. If a change means WayWaker handles information differently, we'll say so in the app's release notes.
